Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't ships touch each other diagonally?

It's a core rule of Battleship Solitaire: ships cannot share any side or corner, including diagonals. This rule is what enables logical deduction — once you place a ship, all 8 surrounding cells become sea.

What does a corner hint tell me?

A corner means the ship continues in exactly one direction from the open side. The two diagonal neighbors and the cell behind the corner are all sea.

What does a submarine hint (circle) mean?

A submarine is a 1-cell ship. All 8 surrounding cells must be sea — no ship can touch it from any direction.

What do I do when a row or column shows 0?

Fill the entire row or column with water immediately. You can click the "0" clue directly to fill it automatically.

Which ship should I find first?

Start with the largest ship (4 cells). The bigger the ship, the fewer valid placements it has on the board, making it the easiest to pin down.

How do I input cells on mobile?

Tap once for sea, tap again for ship, tap again to clear. You can change this order in the Settings menu.

How do I input cells on desktop?

Left-click cycles sea → ship → empty. Right-click cycles in reverse: ship → sea → empty.

Can I change which click places a ship vs water?

Yes — open Settings to choose whether your first click places sea or ship.

How does the fleet counter help me solve?

When a ship type reaches 0 in the counter, no more of that size exist on the board. Any unresolved segment of that size must be sea. This is especially useful in the final stages.

How do I undo a mistake?

Click the undo button. The game stores 30 moves of history so you can backtrack easily.
